Henry Charles Harford (May 13, 1798 – April 15, 1879) was born on May 13, 1798, in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England, to Charles Joseph Harford, a barrister of Stapleton,
Gloucestershire, and Mary Coffin. Reared as a landed gentleman and educated privately, he was admitted to Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, in June 1819 at the age of
twenty-one, later migrating to Emmanuel College on October 31, 1821, and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1824. During his time at Cambridge, he distinguished
himself as a founding member of the elite intellectual secret society known as the Cambridge Apostles. Professionally and
publicly active, he subsequently served as a Captain in the Gloucestershire Militia and held the position of Justice of the Peace for Gloucestershire, alongside achieving
fellowship in the Society of Antiquaries.
His personal life included two marriages: first to Susan Harriet Brice, daughter of Samuel Brice of Frenchay, whom he married on July 26, 1825, in Bristol, and with whom
he raised at least four sons and four daughters; and second to Charlotte Harriet Jones, daughter of Thomas Jones, whom he married in 1869. Throughout his later life, he
resided in locations such as the Royal Crescent in Clifton, Somerset, Stapleton, and Winterbourne. He passed away at the age of eighty on February 15, 1879, in Barton Regis,
Gloucestershire, and was subsequently buried at St. John the Baptist Churchyard in Frenchay, South Gloucestershire.
